It's blowing a gale as I write this and its darn cold. But a Landscapers lot is that they are out in the weather no matter what. As the saying goes if you don't like Melbourne's weather just wait five minutes and down here on the Mornington Peninsula it also rings true.
It's not only our landscapers that have to weather the storm, its also our gardens. If we are laying instant turf you can be sure it will be the middle of a dry spell, or installing mature trees it will be a day like today. It rains when we are excavating or wanting to pour concrete and then there is just the heat of summer when planting needs doing. Whilst we can put measures in place during construction its imperative gardens can withstand these conditions over the long term.
Good design and construction will ensure the longevity of an outdoor space. Adequate drainage for heavy rain, properly installed irrigation and mulch for dry spells are just the tip of the iceberg. Even the type of paving can effect your enjoyment of a space, dark pavers radiate heat and get really hot to walk on. Adding a shade sail or deciduous tree can all add or detract depending on the space. These seemingly little things often are overlooked that a qualified landscaper will pick up.
So if you are planning an outdoor make over, be sure to consider the four seasons it will endure and be prepared that they may just happen all in one day.
